So for whatever the reason, this never got posted as I am apparently absent minded and just saved it as a draft! I don't know if anyone is reading these blogs anymore, but I figured I better get this posted before it's too late!
So the article I looked at was from way back on Feb. 12th. It is from the BBC website and discussed the release of political prisoners in Zimbabwe before the new Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was to be sworn in. The article talked about Amnesty International's push to have the political prisoners freed. The article also touched on the political violence that has plagued Zimbabwe and the cholera crisis that has taken the lives of over 3400 people. Without going much further into the details of the article, I am reminded of all the reasons I am no longer pursuing a career in international development. After completing my undergraduate degree in Anthropology and Development and International Studies, my intentions were to fully immerse myself into the life of humanitarian aid and causes. After an extremely brief stint in the field, I knew that I just couldn't do it. I spent too much time being upset about the political corruption, lack of resources and inability to have enough political power to make significant changes. It was never an issue of passion for the cause, but rather frustration about not being a large enough part of the solution. Soooo...here I am pursuing my other passion - teaching!
